Choosing a subject to focus on in art can be a defining moment for any artist. For me, the decision to create a series centered on vaping was not random. It came from a mix of curiosity, self-use and observation, and a desire to explore a modern phenomenon through a visual lens. This post shares the journey that led me to this creative path and what I hope to communicate through my vape series.

Discovering the Subject

Vaping has become a significant part of contemporary culture, especially among younger generations. It represents a shift in lifestyle and social habits, and it carries a unique aesthetic that caught my attention. The sleek designs, the colorful vapor clouds, and the variety of devices offer rich visual elements to explore.

I was drawn to the idea of capturing these elements in a way that goes beyond simple representation. My goal was to highlight the struggle between technology and personal expression, showing how vaping can impact everyday life or how you feel when you vape isn't in arms reach.

The Flowers represent the feeling, the Pirate leg symbolizes lack of movement (Stuck in one place), and the leg is a clear reminder of how I will continue to kick the habit that I enjoy dearly. One day I will step away and never look back,

Exploring Themes Through Art

In my vape series, I focus on several themes:

  • Design

I wanted to really capture the essences of the vape, most people are not only drawn to the rich taste and cloudy smoke but also the style, buttons, and over all functionalities.

  • Health and Controversy

While my art does not take a stance on vaping’s health effects, I acknowledge the ongoing debates. This adds depth to the series, inviting viewers to think critically about the subject.

Techniques and Style

To bring this series to life, I experimented with various techniques:

  • Mixed Media

Combining color pencils, sharpies, paint markers allowed me to play with textures and lighting effects that mimic the vapor’s ethereal quality.

  • Color Palette

I chose a palette that reflects the mood of vaping culture—cool blues and purples mixed with warm tones to create contrast and interest.

  • Composition

Close-up views and dynamic angles help emphasize the design details and the vapor clouds, making the images feel immersive.

What I Hope to Achieve

Through this series, I want to offer a fresh perspective on vaping. It’s not just about the devices or the act itself but about the stories and emotions connected to it. I hope viewers will see the beauty in everyday objects and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

This project also challenges me to grow as an artist by pushing me to capture something intangible—the fleeting nature of vapor and the cultural significance behind it.

Final Thoughts

This series shows my own person struggle to STOP! I'm not advocating for anyone to vape, let me make that clear. I choose my personal habit to express my feelings. But if these pieces resinate with you then I hope the give you the strength to " Put It Down"
